Carrier protein import into mitochondria mediated by the intermembrane proteins Tim10/Mrs11 and Tim12/Mrs5
Article Abstract:
A new pathway for the transport of the mitochondrial carrier group has been discovered. Related proteins Tim10/Mrs11 and Tim12/Mrs5 interact to facilitate the translocation across the outer membrane. They are both found in a complex with Tim22, and their interaction with precursors depends on the presence of divalent metal ions.

Chaperone-like activity of the AAA domain of the yeast Yme1 AAA protease
Article Abstract:
The AAA family of proteins are involved in many cellular processes. The function of the AAA domain is however uncertain. The AAA domain of the yeast protein Yme1 has been investigated. It is shown that Yme1 senses the folding state of solvent-exposed domains and degrades unfolded membrane proteins. Purified AAA binds unfolded polypeptides, suppressing aggregation, and a chaperone-like activity is noted.
