Complex patterns of food allocation in asynchronously hatching broods of crimson rosellas
Article Abstract:
The distribution of food within wild broods of the Australian parrot crimson rosella, Platycercus elegans, does not appear to be based on competitive interactions between nestlings. There is also evidence that male nestlings, which are 10% heavier at fledging than females, have higher energy needs. Rosellas do not seem to manipulate the distribution of food within the brood by changing the degree of hatching asynchrony. Control of the distribution of food in rosella broods may come through a feeding ecology that permits infrequent, but large feeds.

High population density in bank voles stimulates food hoarding after breeding
Article Abstract:
The effects of population density on hoarding behavior in bank voles, Clethrionomys glareolus, were investigated in the field by using the odors of conspecifics to simulate high population density without the variable of competition for food. Results reveal that bank voles tended to hoard more food if the female is smaller or during periods of high population density. The presence of a litter and its size have no effect on hoarding behavior.
