Hunting patterns, ban on baiting, and harvest demographics of brown bears in Sweden
Article Abstract:
The harvest data is analyzed to describe the hunting patterns and harvest demography of brown bears killed in Sweden. The wildlife managers should know that the differences in harvest systems between jurisdictions might cause qualitative and quantitative differences in harvest biases due to demographic and evolutionary side effects of selective harvesting.

Edge effects on liverworts and lichens in forest patches in a mosaic of boreal forest and wetland
Article Abstract:
Examining small forest patches of two different size classes with patches chosen so that area and perimeter were not correlated within each class has separated the edge and size effects. The results suggest that both the size and shape of the studied forest islands influenced the occurrences of the studied species groups.

Estimating Population Size of Elusive Animals with DNA from Hunter-Collected Feces: Four Methods for Brown Bears
Article Abstract:
The authors recommend fecal sampling as a useful noninvasive genetic approach to estimating population sizes of elusive animals, provided there is well-distributed and adequate sampling. The method is applied to brown bears in Sweden as an illustration.
