Conservation biology trailblazers: George Wright, Ben Thompson, and Joseph Dixon
Article Abstract:
Ben Thompson, George Wright, and Joseph Dixon, early US National Park Service field biologists, are discussed. Their documents have been neglected, but may afford great insight for modern conservation biologists. They developed an easy-to-comprehend guide to managing national park biotic resources half a century before the 1970s, when the key concepts in conservation biology are usually thought of as having been developed.

Effects of forest edges on Ovenbirds demography in a managed forest landscape
Article Abstract:
Studies done on the reproductive ecology of Ovenbirds for 3 years in a primarily forested landscape in northern Wisconsin are presented. Findings reveal that Ovenbirds appeared to make tradeoffs between the probability of nest success and the per-nest productivity as measured by clutch size and the study also reveal that edge effects have complex implications for Ovenbirds breeding in forested landscapes.

Application of conservation biology research to management
Article Abstract:
Results of a survey on wildlife management are presented, focusing on whether resource managers are using research published in Conservation Biology information in their programs. The data suggest that management recommendations are being used to a greater degree in recent years, which is positively correlated with the number of articles containing recommendations.
