Conservation at a distance: Atomic detectives
Article Abstract:
Atomic detectives like mass spectrometers are used as tools to study patterns of migratory birds' habitat, food intake and survival threats by examining the ratios of the stable-isotopes of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen in the tissues of birds. These studies enable knowledge of information on whole populations of animals without harming even a single individual, and the non-destructive study of migratory birds is a huge improvement on traditional methods.

Coral reveals ancient origins of human genes
Article Abstract:
A study conducted on corals proved that ancient animals had passed through the Precambrian mud with a cache of genes that are common to humans. The evidence shows no similarity of these genes to those of insects like flies and worms and thus questions previous research that used these models to unravel the evolution of the human genome.
