Crick's resignation heralds new era for Salk
Article Abstract:
Neurobiologist Francis Crick resigned from the post of President of Salk Institute for Biological Studies in late Aug 1995 due to ill health. Crick had won the Nobel prize jointly with James Watson for discovering the molecular structure of DNA. Administrators of the Salk Institute hope to elect a leading researcher as their new president by Nov 1995. Problems faced by the Institute in hiring and retaining presidents in the past, due to the intrusion of Jonas Salk, founder of the Institute and the possible impact of his recent death on selection of a new president are discussed.
