Proximate cues for predator searching: A quantitative analysis of hunger and encounter rate in the ladybird beetle, Coccinella septempunctata
Article Abstract:
Fourier transforms, fractal dimensions analysis and traditional single-value measures of movement were used to determine which proximate cue caused the changes in behavior, frequency of encounter or degree of satiation. Findings reveal that over a range of encounter rates and levels of hunger, larval ladybird beetles showed intensive search behavior for varying levels of encounter frequency, but did not alter their behavior when hunger was manipulated.

Female preference fo multiple partners: Sperm competition in the hide beetle, Dermestes maculates
Article Abstract:
A study sought to determine whether female hid beetles choose to mate with several different males or seek multiple copulations. The patterns of sperm precedence were evaluated, and oviposition patterns of females were recorded in relation their mating status. Female hide beetles remated more readily with novel males than with their previous partners, indicating that they mate multiply to obtain indirect, genetic benefits.
