Deep-ocean gradients in the concentration of dissolved organic carbon
Article Abstract:
The carbon in dissolved organic material in the ocean amounts to the same amount of CO(sub2) in the atmosphere. However the role of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the global carbon cycle is not well understood. It is thought that DOC in the deep ocean is uniformly distributed. A global survey of deep-ocean DOC concentrations found that concentrations fell by 14 micromolar from the northern North Atlantic Ocean to the northern North Pacific Ocean.

Holocene periodicity in North Atlantic climate and deep-ocean flow south of Iceland
Article Abstract:
Sediment grain-size data from the Iceland basin was used to reconstruct former changes in the speed of deep-water flow. The Iceland-Scotland Overflow Water (ISOW) is an important component of thermohaline circulation modulating European climate. The data suggests a faster ISOW flow when the northern European climate is warmer, although warm climate intervals are associated with slower ISOW flow in the early Holocene.
