Detection of molecular gas in the quasar BR1202 - 0725 at redshift z = 4.69
Article Abstract:
The quasar BR1202 - 0725 shows the presence of a molecular gas, carbon monoxide emissions, that is mostly confined to the central region. The observations are made at the redshift z = 4.69. The quasar may contain about 10 to 11th power solar masses of molecular hydrogen. The quasar is a heavy, large galaxy, comparable to the stellar mass of a present-day luminous galaxy at the Universe age of about one giga year, that is undergoing a large burst of star formation.

An optical spectrum of the afterglow of a gamma-ray burst at a redshift of z = 6.295
Article Abstract:
A study of the optical spectrum of the afterglow of gamma-ray bursts (GRB) 050904 obtained 3.4 days after the burst and the spectrum showing a clear continuum at the long-wavelength end of the spectrum with a sharp cut-off at around 9,000 A due to Lyman alpha absorption at z = 6.3 is illustrated. The Si II fine-structure lines suggest a dense, metal-enriched environment around the progenitor of the GRB.

Discovery of the short-gamma-ray burst GRB 050709
Article Abstract:
The discovery of a short-hard burst whose accurate localization has led to follow-up observations that have identified the X-ray afterglow and the optical afterglow of a short-hard burst is reported. Results reveal that atleast some short-hard bursts occur at cosmological distances in the outskirts of galaxies, and are likely to be caused by the merging of compact binaries.
