A joint venture of United States, Japan and fifteen European nations has launched their first project of the new Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP). The programme aims to drill from the North Pole to deep inside a fault line off the coast of Japan to study sea floor inhabiting marine forms. A scientific cruise, JOIDES Resolution is appointed for the project.

Comet impact theory faces repeat analysis
Article Abstract:
NASA is backing attempts to duplicate a claim that mass extinction was caused by a comet impact about 250 million years ago. A space agency comprising of three scientists was sent to China to collect geological samples that will be sent to ten laboratories for analysis in early 2005.
