Dioxin receptor is a ligand-dependent E3 ubiquitin ligase
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize a fat-soluble ligand-dependent ubiquitin ligase complex in human cell lines in which dioxin receptor (AhR) is integrated as a component of a novel cullin 4B ubiquitin ligase complex [(CUL4B).sup.AhR]. The findings suggest that complex assembly and ubiquitin ligase activity of [(CUL4B).sup.AhR] in vitro and in vivo are dependent on the AhR ligand.

A pre-industrial source of dioxins and furans
Article Abstract:
Modern society is not the first to produce significant quantities of dioxins, as domestic burning of coastal peat has produced the disreputable pollutants for thousands of years. Until recently, dioxins and furans had been thought to be by-products of the organochlorine-based industries that experienced quick expansion during the 1950s.

A degrading solution to pollution
Article Abstract:
A possible mechanism by which dioxins regulate steroid signaling by forming atypical ubiquitin-ligase enzymes that specifically mark members of the nuclear steroid-receptor family of gene-transcription factors for degradation is described.
