Directed combinatorial chemistry
Article Abstract:
Combinatorial chemistry gives chemists the opportunity to access a wide range of molecules for designing drugs, although selecting the right combination is difficult. The lack of structural information about a target gene, requires a diverse molecular set for designing a drug for the target. The split-and-recombine method and the parallel unit synthesis generate large sets of diverse molecules. An organic molecule includes a scaffold and a set of substituents. The production of oligomeric and monomeric molecules are two strategies for assembling the chemical building blocks of a drug.

The combinatorial chemistry of nature
Article Abstract:
The development of technologies such as high-throughput screening, genetics and protein biochemistry, synthetic chemistry and structural biology will help in the utilization of natural products in drug discovery. Efforts are on to collect life forms with new chemicals from unexplored niches. The biosynthetic operons of producer organisms will help in discovering new analogues for chemical semisynthesis. Natural products help in finding potential target genes from macromolecules lying along the targeted gene disruption path.

A combinatorial approach to the discovery and optimization of luminescent materials
Article Abstract:
An automated combinatorial system of synthesizing and characterizing thin-film libraries of up to 25,000 different materials has been developed, based on a three-inch-diameter substrate, as new phosphor candidates. The approach provides rapid screening of compositions and allowed the identification of a new red phosphor with superior quantum efficiency.
