Disasters drive DNA forensics to reunite families
Article Abstract:
Jewish families separated by the Holocaust could be reunited due to the forensic tools developed because of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and the Indian Ocean tsunami of 26 December 2004. Syd Mandelbaum, whose parents survived the Holocaust, announced the DNA Shoah project on June 1, 2006 to match sequences with Holocaust-era remains that have surfaced in land-development projects in Poland, Germany and in Europe.
