Top-down signal from prefrontal cortex in executive control of memory retrieval
Article Abstract:
Research involving the activation of inferior temporal neurons by top-down signals without bottom-up sensory inputs when monkeys were undertaking a visual stimulus-stimulus association task indicates that the prefrontal signal to the temporal cortex plays a role in this form of memory retrieval. Feedback projections from prefrontal cortex to the posterior association cortex seem to serve the executive control of voluntary recall. Further research must be undertaken to establish whether the prefrontal signal could be a form of bottom-up signal through another route.

Dissociating types of mental computation
Article Abstract:
Research undertaken among aphasic patients with acquired neurological damage indicates that different neural systems support mental representation of the regular and irregular past tense. Furthermore, there is evidence that the two morphological categories are linked with different types of mental computation. These findings present challenges for those who believe that the current multilayer connectionist networks can explain the learning and representation of both regular and irregular verb forms.
