Dust from short-period comet P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1 and replenishment of the interplanetary dust cloud
Article Abstract:
The short-period comet P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1 (SW1) contributes about 6% of the matter needed to make up the interplanetary dust cloud's observed losses. A source of matter must exist for the dust cloud to account for why it does not diminish in size despite being depleted of mass by dissipative processes. A numerical model devised to analyze optical images found that SW1 is probably one source of matter for the dust cloud.

Detection of acetylene in the infrared spectrum of comet Hyakutake
Article Abstract:
An infrared spectrum analysis of the volatile material content of Comet Hyakutake shows an abundance of acetylene. The estimated abundance of acetylene is about 0.2-0.9% relative to water and is comparable to the abundance estimated in the solid-phase of cold interstellar clouds. The findings suggest that the volatile materials of the comet may have originated from the ice-covered interstellar grains.
