Early evolution of the venom system in lizards and snakes
Article Abstract:
The presence of venom toxins in two additional lizard lineages is reported to show that all lineages possessing toxin-secreting oral glands form a clade, demonstrating a single early origin of the venom system in lizards and snakes. The construction of glands complementary-DNA libraries and phylogenetic analysis of transcripts revealed that nine toxin types are shared between lizards and snakes.

Rapid evolution to terrestrial life in Jamaican crabs
Article Abstract:
Research shows that Jamaican land crabs have evolved directly from a four million-year-old ancestor that lived in the ocean. The classification structure and molecular phylogeny of Grapsidae crabs is illustrated. Morphological evidence suggests that the crabs, and other organizations such as lizards, adapted to changing environmental conditions during the Mid-Tertiary period.
