Influence of fish meal and supplemental fat on performance of finishing steers exposed to moderate or high ambient temperatures
Article Abstract:
The performance of finishing steers fed with fish meal and supplemental fat and exposed to moderate or high ambient temperatures were studied. Results of the experiment show that supplemental fat does not affect the performance of finishing steer, however high-quality, ruminal escape protein was proven to be beneficial to the diet of heat-stressed finishing cattle. Increasing the ruminal protein does not affect cattle exposed to moderate ambient temperatures.

Meat composition and palatability of Holstein and beef steers as influenced by forage type and protein source
Article Abstract:
Both Holstein and crossbred beef steers were found to produce meat that was similar in composition and palatability regardless of type of forage and protein source. The fatty acid content was found to be more dependent on breed, and could be slightly modified by diet. An increase in monounsaturated and a decrease in polyunsaturated fatty acids was noted during the study. The size of the differences in fatty acids was deemed nutritionally insignificant.
