Effects of grazing on the demography and growth of the Texas tortoise
Article Abstract:
The effects of a single cattle-grazing regime on the demography of the Texas tortoise is assessed by comparing data from grazed and ungrazed pastures and the possible effects of grazing cattle on the Texas tortoise through out its range in the Rio Grande plains is discussed. The results reveal that Texas tortoises are tolerant to intermediate levels of disturbance and the generalities about the effect of cattle grazing on the tortoises should be avoided unless they can be placed in the context of grazing regime, precipitation, habitat quality, and tortoise requirements.

Demography of a collared peccary population in south Texas
Article Abstract:
The population dynamics of collared peccaries in south Texas was analyzed to determine its response to harvesting. The study discovered that variations in rainfall caused population fluctuations among collared peccaries. However, regular harvesting of these large herbivores will help dampen the population fluctuations. A discussion of the other implications of the study on wildlife management is presented.

Effects of Roads on the Structure of Freshwater Turtle Populations
Article Abstract:
Research on snapping turtle and painted turtles in central New York reveals significant male-biased sex ratios in areas with high road density. Skewed sex ratios are likely due to road-related female mortality during nesting migrations.
