Effects of solar UV-B radiation on embryonic development in Hyla cadaverina, Hyla regilla, and Taricha torosa
Article Abstract:
Ultraviolet radiation has a significant impact on amphibian reproduction. Embryonic mortality rates increased in correlation with exposure to ambient solar ultraviolet-B radiation. Both embryonic development and hatching success were affected. These findings have indications for potential conservation strategies, but more research is needed to determine if radiation affects amphibians at the population level.

Recovery of salamanders after clearcutting in the Southern Appalachians: a critique of Ash's estimates
Article Abstract:
Conservation biologist Andrew N. Ash concluded in a 1997 report that within 2 years after timber harvesting in southern Appalachian forests, populations of salamanders were almost completely eliminated. Ash estimated the recovery time for the salamanders to be 20 to 24 years, but this is lower than other estimates. Ash failed to use data from censuses before logging took place.

Sensitivity of embryos of southern Appalachian amphibians to ambient solar UV-B radiation
Article Abstract:
Results suggest that there is only slight risk from exposure to ambient UV-B radiation in pond-breeding amphibians of southern Appalachian.
