European archive for mouse mutants is set to open at last
Article Abstract:
The scientific policy committee of the European Mouse Mutant Archive (EMMA) has agreed that this facility, located at Monterotondo near Rome, Italy, will now open on Apr 1, 1999. The opening had been delayed because there is no full-time EMMA director and because the committee had failed to establish all EMMA's principles of operation. The facility has already shown that it is able to freeze and reconstitute viable mouse embryos and send them out across Europe.

Mouse geneticists call for unified rules of exchange
Article Abstract:
Mouse researchers have called for funding agencies to agree on a standardized, international Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) to reduce paperwork and enhance free exchange. The proposal, from a task force of the International Mammalian Genome Society, arose following concern about restrictions place on the use of research tools.
