Evidence that Hensen's node is a site of retinoic acid synthesis
Article Abstract:
Hensen's node has been found in mice and is capable of causing the growth of digits in chick wing buds, suggesting that the inducing agents in the primary and secondary embryonic fields changed little as the vertebrates evolved. In addition, the ability of retinoic acid to effect the duplication of digits suggests that Hensen's node produces retinoic acid. The mouse Hensen's node can synthesize retinoic acid far more quickly than the anterior or posterior tissues.

The mPer2 gene encodes a functional component of the mammalian circadian clock
Article Abstract:
mPer2, a mammalian homologue of the Drosophila circadian clock gene period, has been shown to encode a dedicated element of the mammalian circadian clock. Mice homozygous for this mutation demonstrate a shorter circadian period followed by a loss of circadian rhythmicity in constant darkness. mPer2 is probably a central clock element, as mutation in mPer2 brings about a change in the expression of other genes thought to be connected with the clock.

Genome-wide atlas of gene expression in the adult mouse brain
Article Abstract:
A study of the Allen Brain Atlas project is illustrated to understand the genetic structural and cellular architecture of the mouse brain by using data that was generated by automated high-throughput procedures for in situ hybridization and data acquisition. This highly standardized atlas will provide researchers an open, primary data resource for various types of further studies concerning the organization and function of the brain.
