Facial and vocal discrimination in sheep
Article Abstract:
Sheep discriminate between different species, breeds and male and female members of the same breed possibly by using facial cues. This also shows that discriminatory performance is affected by orientation, the presence of eyes and vocal cues. Some Clun Forest and Dalesbred sheep can actively distinguish between different faces. The study tests the ability of sheep to discriminate between sheep, humans and other animals on the basis of facial and vocal cues.

Mothers determine sexual preferences
Article Abstract:
Maternal influences on social mammals forming strong attachment bonds with their offspring have been investigated, with the reciprocal cross fostering of offspring between sheet and goats at birth. A strong maternal influence on social and sexual preferences may act to prevent cross-species matings. Male offspring are affected more than females, indicating that they are more significantly influenced by their mothers.
