Foraging strategies of long-tailed macaques, Macaca fascicularis: directional extrapolation
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the foraging behavior of macaques, Macaca fascicularis, by monitoring their ability to identify potential food sites. Five long-tailed macaques were provided with three food piles within a marked area and monitored for their ability to extrapolate and discover hidden food sites outside the marked area. The results showed that male macaques searched for food based on the locations of previously discovered food sites. This suggests that macaques have a high perception to potential food sites.

The sociobiology of male-infant interactions in Barbary macaques, Macaca sylvanus
Article Abstract:
Three large groups of Barbary macaques were studied in an enclosed area from which several other groups were removed for experimental management purposes. Data showed that all males exhibited a strong preference for specific infants, but neither adult nor subadult males biased their caretaking activities towards maternally or paternally related infants. Males did not even prefer maternal siblings over unrelated infants.

Assessment of female reproductive status by male longtailed macaques, Macaca fascicularis, under natural conditions
Article Abstract:
The ability of male longtailed macaques, Macaca fascicularis, living under natural conditions to recognize a female's fertile phase is investigated. The results show that interest shown both by the dominant and subordinate males was strongest during and around the fertile phase of the ovarian cycle.
