Fossil dealer charged over Russian cache
Article Abstract:
The arrest of a German fossil dealer, Joachim Wordemann, has prevented fossils and meteorites being taken out of Russia, and may help prosecutors to find a group suspected of involvement in the theft of fossils from Russian museums. Export licenses for many of the items were issued by the Ministry of Culture, countersigned by directors of the Institute for Paleontology in Moscow, but these are under investigation. Scientists at the paleontology institute had suspected that a criminal network, smuggling fossils out of the country, included both institute members and customs officials.

European physicists split on new magnet
Article Abstract:
A report from the European Science Foundation (ESF) argues that Europe's next large magnet should be a long-pulse 100-tesla magnet facility, but some scientists do not feel that developing stronger magnets is a priority. It is acknowledged that demand is highest for continuous rather than pulsed fields, but there are already state of the art facilities in that area. It is recommended that a prototype by built by 2003.
