Founding father: Almost two hundred years ago Thomas Jefferson was alleged to have fathered a child by his slave Sally Hemings. The charges have remained controversial
Article Abstract:
There are several pieces of evidence supporting a relationship between Thomas Jefferson and his mulatto slave Sally Hemings, including the striking resemblance of several of the children to Jefferson. Sally's fourth child also testified that Jefferson had been identified by Sally as the father of all her children. foster and colleagues have studied a haplotype containing 19 polymorhic markers, and Jefferson's haplotype is not a match for the male descendants of Sally's first son.

Anisotropic upper-mantle stratigraphy and architecture of the Slave craton
Article Abstract:
Geophysics research has established a technique of defining sharp transitions in anisotropic, upper-mantle structure using the coda of teleseismic P-waves. Slave craton seismograms indicate an established stratigraphy at 75, 135 and 195 kilometer depths below the earth's surface. Geometric evidence suggests that shallow subduction may exist at some points in the structure.

Anisotropic spinodal dewetting as a route to self-assembly of patterned surfaces
Article Abstract:
A method for patterning surfaces is described which involves the spinodal dewetting of a polymer surface by a thin polymer film. A template is not required.
