France seeks revised role in space station
Article Abstract:
The European Space Agency (ESA) has agreed to consider a new proposal for a French built crew transfer and re-entry vehicle (CTRV), and a European space module called Columbus orbital facility (COF), but has still to raise the full cost of the revised proposals. There is another proposal to build the space laboratory in Germany and Italy. The member states are meeting in Sep 1995 to decide in favor of any one of these proposals and avoid any deadlock.

Costs curtail but do not kill European space laboratory
Article Abstract:
Costs have been the major difficulty confronting the European Space Agency's (ESA) plans for a space laboratory project. The laboratory is designed to be a component of the international space station Freedom. The major problem in the past have been conflict between France and Germany, the two major contributors, as to the nature of the laboratory. The ESA must trim at least 15% from original budget proposals.

Italian space scientists win round in funding
Article Abstract:
Italy's government ruled that the Italian Space Agency (ASI) must comply with a law specifying that 15% of ASI's budget shall be devoted to research. ASI had been limiting its research spending to what was left after deducting Italy's support for the European Space Agency (ESA). Also, the ESA has cancelled its plans for manned space flights due to member nations' objections to the excessive expense.
