Genetic correlation between the sexes in Drosophila melanogaster: a reply toButlin
Article Abstract:
A reply to a comment revealing apparent inconsistencies in an experiment that explores the genetic correlation between the sexes in Drosophila melanogaster is presented. Natural selection under certain cases may lead to inconsistent results but experimentors should also consider the effects of artificial selection which may increase the amount of genotypes in the sample and magnify any pleiotropic effect caused by linkage disequilibrium.

A comment on the evidence for a genetic correlation between the sexes in Drosophila melanogaster
Article Abstract:
A comment on the results ofan experiment on the genetic correlation between the sexes in Drosophila melanogaster is presented. If there is no control of the mating pattern, inconsistencies may appear. Genetic correlation between Drosophila melanogastersexes could be due to mating speed from base stock and also natural selection under certain parameters. Caution and control of mating patterns are recommended.

Artificial selection for a courtship signal in Drosophila melanogaster
Article Abstract:
The mean inter-pulse interval of the song of the male fly, 'Drosophila melanogaster' is a courtship signal that responds to artificial selection. Artificial selection on this trait produced a line of flies with a mean inter-pulse interval beyond the species' normal range. Changes between the lines indicate that the selected genes tend to reduce both the mean inter-pulse interval and the number of pulses.
