Incipient reproductive isolation and evolution in laboratory Drosophila melanogaster selected for geotaxis
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess the mating behavior of negatively and positively geotactic Drosophila melangoster in laboratory situations. The stability of the evolutionary characteristics that have emerged under different ecological situations was assessed. Results indicated that natural selection results in evolution of stable behavioral phenotype which leads to reproductive isolation between populations. However, this isolation vanishes once the selection is discontinued as the selected trait relapses to a wild-type.

Size-assortive mating in Drosophila malerkotliana
Article Abstract:
Drosophila malerkotliana mates more successfully if individuals have a longer wing size. Males with long wings have more success in mating when competing with short winged males, which have less success. Long-winged females mate more often than short-winded females when there are two females and a male. Pairs of long-winged flies have greater success in mating than do pairs of short-winged flies. There is also a positive relationship between locomotor activity and wing length.

Y-chromosome effects on Drosophila geotaxis interact with genetic or cytoplasmic background
Article Abstract:
The effects of the Y-chromosome on geotaxis were analyzed via large scale hydrbidization experiments in Drosophila melanogaster to characterize the relationship between heredity and geotaxis. Large scale hybridization experiments with Drosophila melanogaster indicated the relationship between fruit fly Y-chromosome and geotactic behavior. Furthermore, the gene regulating geotactic behaviour was also located in the Y-chromosome of the fruit flies.
