Geneticist leaves Cambridge for industrial research post
Article Abstract:
Peter Goodfellow, a leading British geneticist, has decided to resign from his academic post at the University of Cambridge and join the pharmaceutical company SmithKline Beecham. The private sector can offer more attractive basic research facilities than the academic sector. According to Goodfellow, he has enjoyed working at the university, despite its many financial problems. George Poste, Dir at SmithKline, says that the company is planning to base all future diagnostic and therapeutic products on information about the human genome.

The British Labour party will probably agree with social democrat leaders to boost social science support if it wins the May 1997 general election.
