Genome of the marsupial Monodelphis domestica reveals innovation in non-coding sequencing
Article Abstract:
A high-quality draft of the genome sequence of the grey, short-tailed opossum (Monodelphis domestica) is reported. A proportion of the eutherian-specific conserved non-coding elements (CNEs) have come from sequence inserted by transposable elements, indicating transposons as a major creative force in the evolution of mammalian gene revolution.

A kingdom revisited
Article Abstract:
An international consortium of scientists has a landmark study in fungal evolution and has produced a new tree of life for the kingdom Fungi. The cooperation among researchers from various fields was essential to ensure that the broadest possible sample of fungi was selected and that the data was collected and analyzed rigorously.

To be or not to be a lichen
Article Abstract:
Work by Mats Wedin and colleagues highlights both the versatility of fungi and the complications these unsung organisms pose for the biologist. Using molecular techniques, Wedin and his group looked at fungi living on different parts of aspen (Populus tremula) in northern Sweden.
