German biotech lab in bid to silence critic
Article Abstract:
Former Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMB) Deputy Director Gunter Lober expressed criticism in May 1999 of what he alleged was the low level of IMB's scientific output. He was under an obligation to remain silent about matters relating to the institute following his retirement, and has now agreed to make no further public criticisms. Some scientists feel that IMB has been wrong to prevent Lober expressing his views, claiming that this represents an attack on free speech.

On the trail of destruction
Article Abstract:
A team of scientists traveled to Sri Lanka in the wake of the December 26, 2004 tsunami to search, with the assistance of locals, through the damage for clues of where the wave hit hardest. With detailed information, the team hopes to improve numerical tsunami models, produce physical maps that local planners can use when rebuilding settlements, hotels and infrastructure and also plan better evacuation routes that could help save lives.
