Global variation in copy number in the human genome
Article Abstract:
The genome-wide characteristics of the first-generation copy number variation (CNV) are characterized in four populations with different ancestry and the CNVs are classified into different types according to their complexity and whether copies are gained or lost. The result is the first comprehensive map of CNV in the human genome, which has provided an important resource for studying genome structure and human disease.

Effect of extrinsic mortality on the evolution of senescence in guppies
Article Abstract:
Guppies not having an earlier onset of senescence with respect to either mortality or reproduction and not with respect to swimming performance are reported. This mosaic pattern of senescence challenges the generality of the association between decreased extrinsic mortality and delayed senescence.

A DNA damage checkpoint response in telomere-initiated senescence
Article Abstract:
The inactivation of DNA damage checkpoint kinases in senescent cells can restore cell-cycle progression into S phase. Telomere-initiated senescence that reflects a DNA damage checkpoint response that is activated with a direct contribution from dysfunctional telomeres is proposed.
