Hairpins at split ends in DNA
Article Abstract:
A hairpin intermediate provides a molecular solution to the problem of breaking DNA by using an enzyme with a single active site. Hairpin intermediates were first proposed for plant transposons, it was suggested that two separate single-stranded breaks were made in the DNA, one on the top strand and one on the bottom, followed by a ligation step that joined the broken ends together.

Patchwork people
Article Abstract:
Individual characteristics are caused by rearrangements of large chunks of the DNA and hence studying those variations might help in understanding the causes of diseases. Many researchers are therefore trying to find out whether the large variations in the genomes might cause complex diseases such as cardiovascular problems, Parkinson's, psychiatric disorders, and autism.

Approximate challenges
Article Abstract:
A growing evidence that the usual approach to modeling chemical events at surfaces is incomplete, which is an important concern in studies of the many catalytic processes involving surface reactions. It is a difficult task to describe all the transformations through which a molecule must go during a chemical reaction.
