Hard-hitting endeavor captures Ig Nobel
Article Abstract:
Ivan Schwab, an ophthalmologist at the University of California, Davis, slated to win an Ig Nobel prize for explaining why woodpeckers do not get headaches, gave credit instead to Philip May, a former psychiatry professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, who died in 1986. Schwab, however, agreed to share the 2006 Ornithology prize with May for research initiated by her and associates in 1976, which was taken up by Schwab a quarter of a century later.

Improbable museum seeks irrelevant items
Article Abstract:
The Museum of Improbable Research, housed at the top floor of Harvard University's Conant Laboratory, recently opened with the objective of drawing attention to research efforts that are unlikely to be granted funding via normal channels. Exhibits include odd items such as remnants of molds which were used to make plaster casts of the feet of Nobel prizewinning scientists, laboratory notes of famous scientists and an unclaimed 1996 Ig-Nobel prize, among others.

UK chief scientist warns of risks of 'Ig Nobel' ridicule
Article Abstract:
UK scientific adviser Robert May warned the organizers of the annual 'Ig Nobel' awards of the possible negative impact of such awards on the scientific community. May noted that ridiculing scientists through such awards adversely affects the credibility and integrity of serious scientists. Meanwhile, 'Ig Nobel' official Marc Abrahams countered that the awards have a noble purpose, that is, to uphold seemingly funny but promising research.
