Immunocontraception limits foal production in free-roaming feral horses in Nevada
Article Abstract:
Researchers investigated the contraceptive effectiveness of injecting porcine zona pellucida (PZP) into feral horses in Nevada. Previous research indicated that a course of two injections produced maximum contraception, but one objective of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of a single controlled-release PZP vaccination. The researchers found that the mares who had received two injections had a 4.5% reproduction success rate, mares who had received a controlled-release PZP vaccination had a 20% reproduction rate, and members of a group which had received one standard injection had a 28.6% reproduction rate.

Immunocontraception in wild horses: One inoculation provides two years of infertility
Article Abstract:
One injection containing primer porcine zona pellucida (PZP) and adjuvant and booster doses of PZP with adjuvant component in controlled-release pellets was found to be an effective contraceptive in wild horses. They have resulted in reversible infertility in wild horses for two years without the need for more injections of booster doses.

Immunocontraception in feral horses: one inoculation provides one year of infertility
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the effectiveness of a single innoculation of 1-year porcine zona pellucida vaccine as a contraceptive for feral horses in Nevada. Mare fertility dropped from 62.5% to around 10%.
