Importance of iron for plankton blooms and carbon dioxide drawdown in the Southern Ocean
Article Abstract:
Examination of the natural plankton productivity in different regions of the Southern Ocean having different iron abundance supports the hypothesis that iron is a limiting nutrient for the occurrence of plankton blooms. Compared to the southerly branch of the Antarctic circumpolar current, the fast-flowing, iron-rich jet of the polar front produces higher amounts of phytoplankton biomass. The increase in the level of biomass leads to CO2 undersaturation in the Southern Ocean.

Efficiency measures
Article Abstract:
The 'efficient-coding' hypothesis, which predicts the response properties of sensory neurons throughout the nervous system, proposes that sensory neurons are adapted to the statistical properties of sensory signals to which neurons are exposed. This principle is demonstrated to predict how neurons encode natural and visual stimuli, as opposed to artificial stimuli.

Making sense
Article Abstract:
The proprioception for the sensory modality is based on the tiny receptors that are packed in the muscles and tendons and supports the body posture and movement. Proprioception functions in the same way as the conventional senses and it precisely measures physical properties, such as muscle length, tendon tension, joint angle or deep pressure.
