Incompatible mosquitoes
Article Abstract:
The way information from Wolbachia genome-sequencing projects are used to link the complexity patterns of cross-compatibility between strains of Culex pipiens from different populations are described. Two strains of a mosquito species related to Cuplex pipiens are used to show that the nuclear genes modified the expression of incompatibility, highlighting the fact that these types of evolutionary changes are possible.

Wolbachia variability and host effects on crossing type in Culex mosquitoes
Article Abstract:
Variation between incompatible Culex strains in two Wolbachia ankyrin repeat-encoding genes associated with a prophage region, one of which is sex-specifically expressed in some strains, and also a direct effect of the host nuclear genome on cytoplasmic incompatibility (CI) rescue is presented. Wolbachia is a common maternally inherited bacterial symbiont able to induce crossing sterilities known as CI in insects.

Sex increases the efficacy of natural selection in experimental yeast populations
Article Abstract:
The molecular biology of recombination in yeast is produced by genetic manipulation strains that differed only in their capacity for sexual reproduction. Sex increases the rate of adaptation to a new harsh environment but has no measurable effect on fitness in a new benign environment where there is little selection.
