India's carbon dioxide trap
Article Abstract:
The Deccan Traps in India is being considered as a suitable site of storing huge amounts of carbon dioxide (C[O.sub.2]). The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in New Delhi, India, is collaborating with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in Richland, Washington and the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) in Hyderabad, India, on a pilot study on the Deccan Traps's capability to store C[O.sub.2].

The Indian government has agreed to give patent offices around the world access to its Traditional Knowledge Digital Library, a huge electronic database it has developed. The decision of the government to give access to its library has sharply divided opinion in India, where the knowledge is viewed as an important part of the country's public health care in the process.
