Nanofabricated media with negative permeability at visible frequencies
Article Abstract:
A nanofabricated medium consisting of electromagnetically coupled pairs of gold dots with geometry carefully designed at a 10-nm level is reported. The result demonstrates the feasibility of engineering magnetism at visible frequencies and paves the way towards magnetic and left-handed components for visible optics.

Detection and imaging of atmospheric radio flashes from cosmic ray air showers
Article Abstract:
The detection of radio flashes from cosmic-ray air showers is reported. The results show that it should be possible to determine the nature and composition of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays (UHERCs) with combined radio and particle detectors, and to detect the ultrahigh-energy neutrinos expected from flavor mixing.

Clathrate nanostructures for mass spectrometry
Article Abstract:
The nanostructure-initiator mass spectrometry (NIMS) as a tool for spatially defined mass analysis is introduced. It is revealed that NIMS uses initiator molecules held in nanostructured surfaces or clathrates to release and ionize intact molecules adsorbed on the surface.
