Inside an intron invasion
Article Abstract:
Direct insertion of group II intron RNA, one of the four types of intervening sequences located between the protein-coding sequences of eukaryotic genes, into double-stranded DNA is possible. Group I and II introns catalyze reverse splicing into other RNAs. The insertion of intronic RNA into foreign RNAs followed by a reverse transcription to a DNA copy and integration into a genome may lead to intron migration.

Group II intron splicing in vivo by first-step hydrolysis
Article Abstract:
Group I, II and spliceosomal introns splice by sequential transesterification reactions. It is shown that the group II intron first-step hydrolysis reaction occurs in vivo instead of transesterifiction in the mitochondria of yeast strains having branch-site mutations, which block branching, but still allow accurate splicing.
