Is science dangerous?: Does society need protecting from scientific advances?
Article Abstract:
Scientists have an obligation to make public any social implications of their work and its technological applications, and provide an assessment of its reliability. The eugenics movement was a clear case of immorality in scientific research, as the scientists failed to provide an assessment of the reliability of their ideas. The majority of medical ethical issues are best solved by taking into account the rights of those involved to determine their own future.

Science's new social contract with society
Article Abstract:
Modern science has flourished partly due to the stable agreement between its practitioners and the rest of society. The social contract reflects wider contracts between government and society, industry and society and between higher education and society. A new contract is now needed to ensure that scientific knowledge is socially robust and is seen be society to be transparent and participative.
