Israel split on rights to genetic privacy
Article Abstract:
Top officials in the Israeli government have reacted cautiously to a bill that proposes restrictions on the use of genetic information. The bill would mean that individuals would have considerable powers over genetic material taken from them and employers and insurance companies could be prevented from discriminating on the basis of the genetic profile. However there are concerns that doctors could be prevented from undertaking important medical tests, and there may be obstacles to medical research.
