Lateral drag of spin coherence in gallium arsenide
Article Abstract:
Spin-transport phenomena in condensed-matter physics is of great importance with the emergence of metallic giant-magnetoresistive systems and spin-valve transistors. There are possibilities for seamless integration of spin electronics if the phenomena is extended to semiconductors. Spin transport has to be undertaken without the destruction of relevant spin information. Time-resolved optical studies of non-local Faraday rotation in n-type bulk gallium arsenide show that coherently precessing electronic spins are transported over distances of more than 100 micrometres.

Artificial 'spin ice' in a geometrically frustrated lattice of nanoscale ferromagnetic islands
Article Abstract:
An artificial geometrically frustrated magnet is reported, which is based on an array of lithographically fabricated single-domain ferromagnetic islands arranged so that the dipole interactions create a two-dimensional analogue to spin ice. Both, ice-like short-range correlations and an absence of long-range correlations are seen, behavior, which is similar to the low-temperature state of, spin ice, demonstrate that the physics of frustration can be directly visualized through artificial frustrated magnets.

Persistent sourcing of coherent spins for multifunctional semiconductor spintronics
Article Abstract:
Research revealing a 'persistent' spin-conduction mode in biased semiconductor heterostructures is presented. It was established that, under electrical bias, the GaAs layer acts as a coherently rotating spin reservoir that continuously transfers current to the ZnSe layer.
