Leprosy researchers lament suppression of Indian paper
Article Abstract:
The publication of a 1981 paper reporting that the slender loris, a monkey indigenous to India, is a useful animal model for leprosy was halted as a result of professional jealousy. S.C. Agarwal who claims to have been principle investigator on the project demanded that his name be listed first as author. His would-be co-authors claim that he was not involved in the research. The research remains unpublished 12 years later though the results have been announced.

Indian research budget favours defence
Article Abstract:
The Indian government is providing preferential funding increases for military-related research. Military research takes over half of the research budget and a large portion of the extra funding will be used to develop remote-sensing satellites, intended for both military and civilian applications. However, science ministry sources say their main application will be military.
