Leptin modulates the T-cell immune response and reverses starvation-induced immunosuppression
Article Abstract:
Immune function is suppressed by nutritional deprivation. Identification of the obese gene's leptin protein has given a basic insight into the hypothalamus's regulation of body weight, with fat mass being proportional to circulating levels of this adipocyte-derived hormone, which may be rapidly lowered by fasting. Low body weight humans have both reduced leptin levels and reduced cell-mediated T-cell immunity. A new study investigates the effect of leptin on T-lymphocyte responses. It is suggested that leptin has a role in relating cognate cellular immune function to nutritional status.

CD40 ligand-transduced co-simulation of T cells in the development of helper function
Article Abstract:
CD40 knockout mice immunized with soluble CD40 in vivo have been shown to display germinal center formation, while mice deficient in CD40 were unable to form germinal centers, suggesting that CD40 ligand in T-cells is required for evoking a humoral immune response. It has been shown that the absence of the CD40 ligand prevents lesioned cells from signalling the T cells to provide B cell response that are required to make antibody responses.

Immunological agnosia
Article Abstract:
Astudy which described the mechanism behind the inactivation of the immune system's T cells presents a number of implications. The study demonstrated the role of suboptimal ligands in the nonresponsiveness of T cells. This results present an opportunity to regulate disadvantageous immune responses by using analogue peptides. However, the results also present questions on the nature of T cell reactions.
