Light echoes from ancient supernovae in the Large Magellanic Cloud
Article Abstract:
The detection of light echoes allows pinpointing the supernova event both in position and age and, permitting the acquisition of spectra to determine the type of the supernova centuries after the direct light from the explosion first reached Earth. The report on the three faint variable-surface-brightness complexes with smallest previously catalogued supernova remnants in the Large Magellanic Cloud, which are believed to have thermonuclear supernovae, is presented.

Imaging of a Lyman-alpha absorption cloud in front of the radio galaxy 4C41.17
Article Abstract:
The size and shape of Lyman clouds can be detected based on dark shadows formed by huge haloes around high-redshift radio galaxies. A direct observation of a Lyman absoption cloud in front of radiogalaxy 4C41.17 is presented. The cloud has an elongated shape and has dimensions of 40*10 kiloparsecs. However, it remains unknown whether the cloud is part of 4C41.17 or if it directly surrounds the radiogalaxy.

One cloud and its silver lining
Article Abstract:
Two astronomical observations yielding data on the shape and size of a putative Lyman-alpha forest cloud have huge implications for the field of cosmology. The findings could also provide clues on the source and strength of the intergalactic ionizing radiation field. The method used for the observation is evaluated and possible sources of misinterpretations are given.
