Love thin enemy
Article Abstract:
Heg and van Treuren have reported a comprehensive study of polygyny in the oystercatcher, which is rare in this species of bird. Polygyny results when battles between females reach a stalemate, and they may then join forces with a male in defending common territory and to jointly raise a brood. Experiments, rather than observational studies, would provide more answers, if they could test predictions derived from a quantitative theory.
