Major claims policy changes will 'strengthen' UK science
Article Abstract:
There was opposition, from both Conservative and Labour Party members as well as from scientists, to the British government's decision to shift the Office of Science and Technology from the Cabinet Office to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Ian Taylor, an under-secretary in DTI, said that fundamental science research would not be affected in any way, but scientists are not very confident about his statements.

Patent infringement charges could be brought against Indian pharmaceutical firm Cipla of Mumbai if it goes ahead with plans to distribute cheap anti AIDS drugs to third world countries against the wishes of large pharmaceutical organisations.

Tests fail to support claims for origin of AIDS in polio vaccine
Article Abstract:
The testing of polio vaccines made in the late 1950s has revealed no trace of primate antecedent SIV or HIV. These results throw doubt on claims that AIDS originated in polio vaccine.
