Male ticks help their mates to feed
Article Abstract:
Three immunoglobin-binding proteins (IGBPs) which are important in the feeding of ticks have been sequenced, and a male-specific IGBP appears to aid females to feed. IGBPs function as a system of self defense that operates against ingested immunoglobins. Male ticks can ensure that their genes are passed on by aiding their mates in feeding, since female ticks' large blood meals are turned into several thousand eggs. The female is protected against rejection by hosts through this method.

Neuron loss in APP transgenic mice
Article Abstract:
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder. Neuropathological characteristics of AD, such as amyloid plaques, have been reproduced in transgenic mice by over-expression of mutant amyloid-beta precursor protein (APP). Such mich are shown to exhibit selective neuronal death in regions of the brain most affected in AD, indicating the involvement of amyloid plaque formation in AD neuron loss.
