Market value and managerial decisions: implications from a decade of feeder cattle teleauctions
Article Abstract:
Data from feeder cattle teleauction sales in Georgia from 1977 to 1988 were statistically analyzed to detect significant factors influencing price. The data was divided into two periods, 1977-82 and 1983-88, to test whether these factors had changed over the time periods. The study showed that the Hereford breed had a reduced value while the other breeds had no price impact. Health treatments increased market value while seasonal impactwas reduced from 1978-82 to 1983-88 periods. Lot size increased from 228 cattlein 1978-82 to 280 in 1983-88. Finally, pencil shrink allowances had a negative price impact.

Snap decisions are often unpersuasive
Article Abstract:
Los Angeles jurors made a hasty decision in the O.J. Simpson trial, giving little attention to the technical evidence. The acquittal of the former US football star raised controversies regarding the ethics of legal proceedings and the utility of technical evidence. Simpson was charged with the murder of his wife and her male friend. The case created racial tensions, as Simpson and the majority of jurors are black.
